Privacy Policy

Short version: Holiday Hacker does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data with us. Everything you create — trips, reminders, favorites, preferences — stays on your device in local storage. There is no account, no login, no analytics, no advertising SDK, and no backend server. Backup & restore is optional and entirely under your control: you can export a JSON file to Downloads or cloud storage and restore it later; we never receive that file.

1. What data we collect

None on our servers. Holiday Hacker has no server. We do not run a backend that receives or stores user data. The following data is created by you on your own device and is stored only there until you choose to export it:

Profile and onboarding answers (name, location, leave balance, travel preferences).
Calendar setup and selected holiday windows.
Custom and regional holidays you add.
Trip plans, destinations, and plan picks.
Favorites and “already visited” places.
Reminder preferences (days before trip, reminder time, transport mode per trip).

This data lives in localStorage on the device. It does not leave the device unless you explicitly:

Export a JSON backup (Profile → Backup & data → Export backup, or during first-time setup → Restore backup),
Export an iCalendar (.ics) file, or
Open a Google Calendar link the app generates.

We do not operate cloud sync, automatic backup, or any service that uploads your data to Nex Reality.

2. Backup and restore

Holiday Hacker includes an optional local backup and restore feature so you can keep your data when resetting the app or moving to a new phone. This feature:

Is user-initiated only — nothing is exported unless you tap Export backup.
Creates a JSON file named like HolidayHacker-backup-YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS.json.
Includes all app data stored under the holidayHacker_ keys (profile, calendar, holidays, trips, plan picks, favorites, and reminder settings).
On Android, saves to Downloads or a folder you pick via the system file picker; restore uses the same picker.
Can be started from Profile → Backup & data or during welcome setup if you already have a backup file.

Restore replaces all existing app data on that device with the contents of the backup file you select. After restore, trip alarms are re-scheduled on the device.

Backup files remain on your phone, USB storage, email, Google Drive, or wherever you save them. Nex Reality does not receive, host, or process backup files. There is no automatic upload and no account-linked cloud backup.

You are responsible for keeping backup files secure. They are not encrypted by the app; anyone with access to the file could read its contents on another device with Holiday Hacker installed.

3. Permissions the app requests

To deliver loud, on-time trip alarms and optional backup, the app requests the following Android permissions on your device. None of these grant Holiday Hacker ongoing access to your personal files; they only support features you use:

Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — to show alarms when they ring.
Schedule exact alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM) — to ring at the exact time you chose, even if the device is in deep sleep.
Full-screen intent (USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT) — so the alarm wakes the screen and presents a Dismiss / Snooze UI like a clock app.
Foreground service & Wake lock — to play the alarm tone reliably until you dismiss it.
Receive boot completed — to re-arm pending alarms after a phone restart so you don't lose them.
Vibrate — for the alarm vibration pattern.
Storage / file access (Android) — only when you tap Export backup or Restore backup, so the app can write to Downloads or let you pick a JSON file. The app does not read your files in the background.
Internet — only used by the WebView for any third-party links you tap (e.g., Google Calendar render?action=TEMPLATE URLs); the app's core data ships inside the APK and works fully offline.

4. Data sharing

We do not share any data with anyone, because there is no data on our side to share. Backup files you create stay under your control. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or marketing SDKs.

5. Data retention

Data lives on your device for as long as the app is installed. If you uninstall the app or use Profile → Clear all data & reset app, Android removes local storage and your in-app data is permanently deleted unless you exported a backup file first.

You may export a JSON backup at any time and restore it on the same or a new device. Backup files are not deleted when you uninstall the app — they remain wherever you saved them (e.g. Downloads or Google Drive).

6. Children's privacy

Holiday Hacker is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any data from children — or anyone.

7. Security

Because we do not collect your data on our servers, the security of your trip data depends on the security of your device and any backup files you choose to store elsewhere. We recommend keeping Android up to date, using a secure screen lock, and treating backup JSON files like sensitive personal data if you store them in cloud services or share them.

8. Changes to this policy

If our practices change (for example, we add an optional account or cloud sync service), this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date at the top will change. Manual backup and restore as described above is not a cloud service operated by Nex Reality. The same page is linked from inside the app (Profile → Privacy policy).
